About Me

My photo
Austin, TX, United States
A poltical idealogy for me has really never been narrowed down into what "party" im in, but what situations I agree on from my experiences and the experiences I see happening to others around me. I could have a Liberal view on an issue but have a stance in a more conservative overall outlook. Personally, I have that general family you see on the movies.... one aunt is democratic, ones republican, ones so on and so forth. I was raised in the country riding horses, down south with a bunch of country folks. and then I lived in Austin, LA, Alanta, Georgia where the liberal side had come out in me. I am taking this class to get more of a basic understanding on the United States government and advance from there. Sadly enough, the majority of Americans do not know how our country runs, and how the government works and I happen to be in that majority! Hopefully soon I will be out! Current events to me happen to Rihanna and Angelina Jolie not to our laws, military or anything of that sort. I hope to learn, to grow, and grasp the idea on American government

Young People shouldnt vote???

One word comes to mind, UNCONSTITUTIONAL.  Leave it up to New Hampshire Republicans to say that young people are inadequate voters due to being "foolish', "lacking life experience", and vote "liberal". This is a bill to " permit students to vote in their college towns only if they or their parents had previously established permanent residency there." Many complain that not enough Americans are voting then why do we consider putting more red tape up and making more restrictions for American voters young or old? Only 71% of Americans are registered to vote! Passing bills to put young Americans out of the political loop and to eliminate the Election Day Registration policy to increase voter turn out is absurd! We shouldn't look at taking away the various options we have for Americans to vote but a way to make it easier! Solutions such as being automatically registered, having major employers and local employers give paid time off to vote, or using new technologies for online voting! Young Americans should be strongly encouraged to start voting now to learn the political system and to want to learn more about who they are voting for and why, so in future years the American voters are well educated from a young age! If a young American can go to war and die for his country how is it he can vote for his/her president? Lets use some common sense here my dear republicans and know that if you take away the rights from the young beings that hold Americas future in hand what are you left with?!

  1. On “Mariah’s Govt 2305 Blog,” Mariah writes in her recent editorial reasons of why the new bill limiting young voters would be a problem. She overall conveys the message clearly and has a persuasive voice. She weaves in bits of quotes to give proof of what is going on without taking away from the readability. Her balance of facts and opinions gives her editorial validity and makes it convincing.

There are several issues though, that I think take away from the editorial’s power and flow. I think that the focus should be entirely on the young voter issue. The solutions given are more related to the issue of a lack of voters in general. There are a several sentences that are a little confusing. A couple of sentences begin as comments and then end as questions. I think that splitting the sentence into a comment and then following with a question would be most effective. There are other grammatical problems that are also easily fixable.

Overall, I think Mariah has a good argument that informs and persuades.
